The e-mail wars begin

News stories started circulating about google's new gmail e-mail service on April 1st so many people thought at first it was some kind of April fools day joke, it would seem not!

So is this the beginning of the e-mail wars?, we've all heard of the browsers wars back in the mid-ninities and there was a search engine skirmish of
sorts over the past couple of years so is this the start of a all out war of e-mail providers.

When you consider that hotmail only provides its users with 2MB of webspace and yahooMail only allows 6MB of webspace whats to stop a mass-migration of both there users to a @gmail.com e-mail address?
Yes its a inconvienence to change e-mail addresses but when many users see the benefits of having so much space and if Google's gmail service allows IMAP &/or POP3 access in the future for free or with a small fee its still a excellent deal even without such a feature

Will this new e-mail service force the likes of hotmail to provide a good quality service? I hope so, but I for one will be staying with my e-mail provider myrealbox.com :-)
